Japanese Encephalitis in Australia

Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus has been detected in piggeries across Australia. It is an exotic and notifiable disease in both animals and humans in Australia. There have been cases confirmed in humans in multiple states. Geographic spread of mosquito-borne diseases is expanding around the world and diseases are emerging in new places and re-emerging in areas where they had been eradicated. This is one health, the interactions between humans, livestock, birds, feral pigs and insects.
